29 October, 2008 - 19:26 Connecting Your XM Radio To Your CarPc

Ever wonder if there was an option for hooking up your XM satellite radio to your Car's PC? Well I did some searching and came across a very well put together tutorial.

Here is a list of the parts you'll need:

* 8 pin mini-din plug. If you can get your hands on a older mac printer cable it has the correct style of plug.
* female db9 connector & hood
* Wires to connect it all up.
* 12 volt tap. (get it form somewhere)

If it's something you would like to take the time in doing, you can find the rest of the tutorial, read more | add new comment

9 October, 2008 - 15:16 Product Spotlight: Coleman Powermate PMP400 Inverter

Today I'm going to start a weekly campaign, where I'll be spotlighting different CarPC components.

Today we'll be taking a look at the Coleman Powermate PMP400 Inverter.

The PMP400 is by no means a perfect inverter, and there have actually been reports of it 'smoking' on people. If you're looking for a deal, and aren't running a whole lot of power through it, then it might be something to look into.

The Inverter provides current, and thermal protection which is vital when deciding on a power supply for your CarPC setup

This is the video of a BMW Car PC display. I especially like the slick interface, and the way the screen is built into the interior. Very nice.

Getting into the CarPC field can be a rough start. There's learning how to install electronic devices into your car. Then once you get down the mechanical side of it, you've got to learn about computers themselves. The knowledge you must know for cars and computers is like apples and oranges.

Here are a couple of books to help get you started with your CarPc installation.

11 July, 2008 - 18:51 Tutorial For Impressive CarPc Installation

While browsing the internet I came across a very extensive and useful carpc installation tutorial. Pretty much everything you could want out of a CarPC is featured. The installation was done on a Mazda3 and looks pretty sharp.

Here's some features of the PC:

- Turn-by-Turn GPS Navigation!!!
- Listen to music
- Watch videos/movies
- Control audio with steering wheel control. Since the audio is fed into the HU with a P.I.E adapter, the steering wheel is my "master" volume control.
- View Pictures in a slideshow
- Sniff wireless networks and plot them with GPS.
- Download and view local Weather info, including 3 day forcast and doplar radar
